Lose Weight And Gain Even More

A new Bible study leads to weight loss and improves your total health for life

By Toni Perrier

Perhaps you may have already heard the buzz that there is a new spiritual fitness program coming to Grace this fall. Maybe you are already familiar with the program known to over half a million participants nationwide as First Place. If you are new to the concept, let me explain.

The First Place program was started in 1981 by a Baptist church in Texas. It began as a weight loss and diet program which would focus on the person as a whole: emotionally, physically, spiritually and mentally.

WAIT!? Did she just say DIET program? Weight Loss?! Well, yes. I did. If you are someone who has struggled with the issue of weight and food, I believe that First Place could be the road to a new beginning for you. It has been for me.

A little over a year ago I was searching for help regarding me health. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during both of my pregnancies, and I knew that the extra weight I carried from back-to-back pregnancies would be harmful as I entered my mid-thirties.

At the same time, I was a busy mom and wife with leadership roles within the church and community and a part time job. Inside, I felt conflicted. Although my role on the steering team of a local Christian mothers group was providing spiritual growth, I felt like I wasn’t able to reflect that in my physical life. I was exhausted!

Then my mom showed me our Christmas pictures. I said, “I look tired.” What I really thought was, “I look fat.”

Around that time a friend I met at my children’s preschool told me about First Place: a weight loss program that puts God first and improves your total health for life.

Initially I joined to lose weight and gained SO much more. For the first time I was actually reading the Bible and memorizing Scripture, I gained the support of friends within the Bible study who encourage me on my journey. I also lost weight and have kept it off for over a year.

First Place is not a “quick pill”. I still have to work at keeping the weight off. However, the most important thing about joining this Bible study is realizing that I don’t have to do this on my own.

First Place 4 Health will launch this fall at Grace. If you are so excited and just can’t wait, check out www.firstplace.org and read about how the program has touched so many lives. If you have questions feel free to send me an email or call Toni at 763-421-2606.
